FULL STEAM AHEAD
Before Andrew Sekel really feels like a king on his throne. That's because his toilet boasts some of the best views in this three-bedroom waterfront apartment.
Unfortunately, the rest of the bathroom was anything but palatial. It was more befitting a court jester, often being referred to as a galah due to its pink and grey colour scheme. And that wasn't all. "While it was still livable, everything dripped," Andrew's wife Roanne says. "All the taps and fittings were corroded, the cistern was cracked, and the sink was tragic, with a laminated top and pink basin." |
So they wanted the waterworks overhauled, but not the fabulous water views. And what better way to maximize this feature than to carry it through to the inside of the apartment?
"We've painted the rest of the apartment in cool blues, so we wanted to continue it right through," Roanne says. |

After taking into account the fabulous view of a marina from the bathroom window, a nautical theme of blue and white was decided on.
First, the tacky pink and grey floor tiles were replaced by blue ones. Then the tub and wall tiles were "Thermoglazed" white; the ceiling, walls and window frame painted white; and the toilet and vanity replaced with stylish, contemporary white versions.
A glass screen took the place of the old shower rail, and a white blind was fitted on the window. The pedestal basin's curved front is reminiscent of an ocean liner, and the chrome flick-mixer taps in the sink and shower also have a nautical look. |
